PROJECT OVERVIEW
Every year during the month of December, Fellowship Bible Church has an Advent series that leads up to Christmas. The theme and series art changes every year, but the premise stays the same, which is that Jesus Christ provides us with hope, peace, joy, and love.
I created the brand identity for this series, which includes assets for web, app, and social platforms.
CHALLENGE
After a discovery call with one of the worship pastors, I discovered the theme for Advent 2022, “Advent Past and Present.” After discussing this, I began brainstorming ways to illustrate two very different versions of Advent: Christ’s birth and Christ’s return.
In addition to a complex theme to illustrate, the series art posed some difficulty because it was going to be used across all four of Fellowship’s congregations. Since each congregation has a different aesthetic preference, I worked with each campus to ensure I created an identity that would work for them all.
STRATEGY + DESIGN
The final brand identity showcased Christ’s birth in the logo, but illustrated Christ’s return in the teaching slides. I utilized color to differentiate the two versions of Advent by using a cream color background for Christ’s birth, and a dark gray background for Christ’s return. Each service was split into two parts, and the stark contrast of light and dark slide backgrounds emphasized the theme to the congregants sitting in service.
For the past two years, the series art has been very similar, using gold-foil and feeling very traditional. Because of this, I changed things up and created something that was different but also on brand for Fellowship.
I used a highly saturated green to pop on both light and dark backgrounds. By choosing this color, it pays homage to Christmas but also adds a modern twist to the normal red, green, and gold color scheme.
The final branding was a success for all four congregations, and the logo was transformed into different elements to use across all digital and print platforms.
